Tom Joyner Fights for Pardon

You all may or may not listen to the Tom Joyner Morning Show [I do..don't judge me lol], if so you may have heard him discussing the case involving the wrongful death of his great uncles over in South Carolina.

He is seeking pardon of his two great-uncles, Thomas and Meeks Griffin, who were executed by the electric chair in 1915. They were wrongfully convicted of murdering an Confederate Army Veteran and according to records found, also given an unfair trial.Joyner wasn't aware of this incident until 2008 during a documentary on PBS and has researched all of the information since then. AP reports, "The Griffins were forced to sell their 130 acres to finance their defense. After they died in the electric chair on Sept. 29, 1915, Joyner's grandmother moved to Florida, where the family's known history begins."

"In June 2008, Joyner, Gates and legal historian Paul Finkelman wrote Gov. Mark Sanford seeking a pardon." The case is scheduled today and Tom Joyner claimed on his show that if they do not grant his uncles their pardon, 'there will be some table flippin'...Ok Tom...right. I find this story interesting however. I too have family in South Carolina and wonder what history I may have buried there. I'll keep you posted on the outcome of the hearing."
