Where u '@'?
Ahhh, Facebook just couldn't resist. If most of you logged onto your Facebook account this afternoon, you probably noticed news of a new feature that reminded you of another popular social [micro-blogging] site Twitter. The '@' feature, which on Twitter [or other blog sites] is known as a way for people to leave a comment directed to someone, also known as a 'Mention', Twitter has been known to be famous for using this. Well now it looks like Facebook jumped on that good 'ol bandwagon and adopted the same.
So we know how to use Twitter, now how does this work for Facebook? Well when making a wall post or tagging someone, you just type '@' and a drop down menu will appear allowing you to select the person you want to direct the message to. The @name will not be visible however once the message is sent or the wall post is uh..posted. It will however, notify that person of you message/wall post so that they know it is directed to them....[did that make sense???]
Of course like Facebooks many unveilings, this feature is not completely accessible. Some of you may have it sooner than others, so just hold your excitement.
How do you feel about this Tray Gotti?
Why I'm glad you asked! Long story short, I think Facebook needs to remain Facebook and let Twitter remain Twitter. I heard alot of people complaining and throwing negativity at Twitter because it was confusing and "What do they mean 'What am I doing?!' Im not gonna post my every move!" Then these same people started updating their facebook statuses every 5 seconds! Now you want to give them access to the '@Mention' feature?! Ugh..but I understand. If you can't beat the competition, join them right?
